Unless you've been living in a cave for the past few months you may have noticed the recent collaboration between Uniqlo, king of basics, and Celia Birtwell, queen of prints. Some of the styles aren't really up my street (like the v-neck, long t-shirts), but I really love these culotte-style shorts. They're great over black tights with ankle boots for work and with sandals or trusty converse for general summer wear. Another high waisted piece that works well with both cropped tops or longer t-shirts (if, like me, you work in the sort of office where it's not appropriate to have your midriff on show).
At only £14.99, these shorts are a bit of bargain (so it goes without saying that I may have bought them in both black and white. Deal with it).

In the quest for the ultimate pair of denim shorts for summer, I came across these in Urban Outfitters. A flattering cut that isn't too short at the back (because the exposed under-bum look suits no-one, not even size six teenagers). A classic high waist design which sits just over the tummy button and is great with cropped tops. A perfect shade of indigo, great for day and night. And a pretty reasonable price - £38.
